Immediate steps to minimise lasting marks
Blot, don’t rub - Gently blot with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Rubbing can spread the stain and distort the pile. Remove solids carefully- Lift solids with a spoon or blunt knife to avoid pushing them deeper into the pile Use small amounts of water - Apply a small amount of cold water if appropriate, then blot again. Avoid soaking the carpet. Avoid heat and harsh products - Do not use steamers, hairdryers, bleach or high-alkaline cleaners, as these may set the stain or damage the fibres. If unsure, stop - If a stain persists, further attempts may worsen it. Contact a professional carpet cleaner for guidance.
